Rag rug

Well, crocheting the rug is lots of fun and it turned out even better than I thougt! BUT I already ran out of fabric (THREE large bed sheets!!!) and it has not yet the size that I need! So I need to find more blue things that I can cut up to finish the rug. :-( Might take a while ...

Crochet hooks arrived

Yesterday the crochet hooks, that I had ordered, finally arrived! (Instead of ordering one really big hook I ended up ordering a whole set. Cost me only little more ... and if I need s smaller hook in the future I already have one.) So I finally could try whether the fabric strips that I had cut were too wide or too narrow. I started to crotched a rug for my daughter. I planned on making one of fabrics in different shades of blue. I started crocheting and it is really easy and since the fabric is rather thick it builds up really fast.

Witch costume

The last days I was busy thinking about how to make a halloween costume for my daughter. She wanted to be a witch. I looked at a few costumes you can buy ... but didn't like them. So I decided that it shouldn't be too hard to make one myself! After sorting through many old clothes and fabrics I finally started ... and ... tada ...

Well, it is not finished yet. I will sew more little spiders and mice to the green cape. And also I want to make a long skirt from the red fabric below so she can wear it under the black dress.

And I did buy a pointed hat. Didn't feel like making that one myself. It won't be the prettiest witch ever ... but I am actually quite satisfied so far. Especially since I made it completely from scraps ... (The black dress used to be a shirt of mine.) I am really curious how it will turn out when I am done ...

Beautiful fall

I love fall. And so does my daugther. :-) She had a lot of fun yesterday throwing all the colored leaves around. And of course we had to take some home and made a wreath that she hung in her room.

Today we made cookies - again. I kinda feel I gave this blog the wrong name. Should have named it cookies 'n more ... But I will - hopefully - do some more muffin baking in the future. If I have enough time.
I actually was planning on making the cookies yesterday. I put together the dough ... and realized that it has to sit in the fridge for at least 24 hours. :-( Luckily my daughter wasn't too disappointed.

She helped today with the cutting of the cookies. Last time we visited Berlin I let her choose a cookie cutter which I bought for her. She chose a hand - which I found rather weird, since they had bears and trains and stuff. But she was very proud of it and couldn't wait to try it today. She also helped stamping the message on the cookies. I just bought that that cookie stamp recently and used it for the first time. I think it turned out really well. You can stamp all kinds of messages on the cookies. I think I will use it a lot ... :-)

And I also started a new project ... I want to make a rag rug for my daughters room. I actually never liked the look of them. I thought they always looked kinda messy ... and having a flat like mine there is pretty much enough messieness ... :-)
But then I saw some photos on the web where the colours of the fabric where matched. And those rag rugs just looked fabulous! So I started to cut up some sheets and shirts. The good thing is I can do it while watching my daugther. Most of my projects I can't do during the day (like painting or doing the candles I posted about last time) because as soon as my daughter sees it she wants to do it too. But cutting up sheets doesn't seem too appealing to her ... and if it does I can just give her some old once or some paper ... :-) So during the next weeks I will probably be busy cutting up things ... and I need to order a really large crochet hook ...

Decorated candle

Finally another finished project. Last year I made another candle (on the left). It was the first time that I decorated a candle so I was very proud of the result. :-)
This year I said I would make a candle for the first birthday of a little very special girl. I was very unsure of what theme or colours I should use. I finally decided to go for flowers and little insects. I was thinking of grass with flowers at the bottom of the candle and lady bugs and bees and stuff flying above. I wanted to use a light blue candle - to resemble a sky. Since I couldn't find one I used a yellow one. After postponing the project since I was really scared to mess it up and wasn't sure where to start ... I finally started yesterday evening and it was so much fun that I also finished it the same night! I really like how it turned out. But the pictures (taken at night right after I finished it) didn't turn out too well I think.
I especially like the bee and the lady bug.

More cookies

Last week I made cookies again. This time oatmeal raisin cookies. I had been searching for a good recipe for a long time and had tried a couple already. I never was really satisfied with the result. Either the cookies were too dry or didn't have the right texture. This time I tried a new recipe from the Martha Stewart website and I simply LOVED the cookies! They are even good without raisins!
Sounds pretty stupid to make oatmeal raisin cookies without raisins? Well, my daughter doesn't like raisins - so I made half a batch just oatmeal cookies for her. :-)
