No scratch mittens for baby

When I stumbled over this tutorial on the blog Obsessively Stitching I thought "I should make these". I remember that my daughter scratched herself quite a bit when she was born. At the time I did not even know that there are mittens especially to prevent babies from scratching themselves.
Now I know... and I was actually thinking of buying some ... just in case ... But - as often - hadn't done so yet. I was also not too sure whether to buy them ... I mean, maybe the little boy won't be such a scratcher ... or he simply won't like having mittens on his hands ...
But when I saw the tutorial I thought, that's it. I gotta make them. If I end up never using them ... doesn't matter. At least I practiced a bit sewing ... (Sewing tiny things is REALLY hard!!!!) and in the end I can always give them to my daughter for her dolls ...
So, after searching through my fabric and finding some knitted fabric and getting a really really sweet email from Care (the author of Obsessively Stitching) who gave me a pattern/ the measurements for the mittens - I actually had no clue how big I should make the mittens - I FINALLY managed to sew them. This was my first experience sewing something this tiny AND my first time sewing knitted fabric. Well, definitely strange ... But I think they turned out alright. You might notice from the photo that I did not adjust the elastic at the cuff yet. I figured I should do that once the baby boy is here to make sure it won't be too tight or too loose.

By the way, if you think that the fabric choice is a bit girly - well, you should have seen my other options: pink or pink with flowers. :-D

Oh! They turned out so cute!!

Sorry printing the pattern was such a hassle -- I am working on a better system.

Good luck with the delivery -- if it hasn't already happened!

Thanks for the sweet comment! And really - no hassle at all!!!!
Thanks for being so nice and taking time to help me with the pattern! Really would not have expected it.

I have to admit though - I did not have the heart yet to put them on his tiny hands. He loves chewing at his fists ... (which my daughter never did) ... and I could not bring myself to take that away from him ... We'll see how the scratching goes. Up until now it is still not too bad.
And thanks for the good wishes for the delivery. It has happened October 21st. :-)

What are the measurements for the mittens? I'd love to make a pair for my as yet to be born baby but I can't find how big/small you made them (and no info like that on the Obsessively Stitching blog either).

As written in the post Care from Obsessively stitching was so nice to email a pattern to me. As it is not my own pattern I did not post it on the blog and do not want to pass it on. I would recommend going over to her blog and asking nicely what the measurements are ... you can tell her I sent you. ;-) I bet as she is such a lovely person she will help you.
