Ideas wanted!

I simply can't come up with something to do with this fabric - and it really bothers me! It is a cotton fabric and I have a big piece of it. (I bought it second hand together with other ones.) I don't think it would be nice to make clothing from it. I kinda was thinking that I could make something for birthdays ... something that could become a tradition. Like a tablerunner that will be used every year for the birthday table. However - I can't think of anything else but table runner! *help* And a table runner just seems so ... well, easy and boring. I just would have to hem the fabric ... and that's it. I would like to have a more exciting project ...
Any ideas out there? What would you make from a printed fabric like this? Anything that comes to mind when you are looking at it?

That is VERY fun fabric! Three ideas came to mind immediately when I looked at it:

The first was a big sack(with a drawstring neck) for presents. Something you can put your kids' gifts in for Christmas morning.

The second was an advent calendar - cut out 25 of the gift motifs and applique them onto little green and red pockets sewn onto a solid color ((like ivory) background. Put little treats or love notes into each picket.

The third was a pillowcase to be used during the advent season. But don't sew the entire pillowcase from this fabric. Use a solid color (like green or red or even white) and add a 5-6" panel of this fabric to both of the short sides of the pillowcase.

So fun!

Oh, and also you can use it to trim a wide border around a tree skirt.

OK, I'd better stop now and go prepare lunch!

It looks very Christmas-y to me as well, I was going to suggest a Christmas tree skirt. I like the gift sack suggestion too, or maybe you can cut it up into squares and make it into reusable gift wrapping (I've made some of this before, I posted about it here). Whatever you decide to make, I'm sure you'll have fun with it!

Well, it did look christmas-y to me, too. And actually I was already also thinking of a tree skirt. However, I have already something that I use as a tree skirt ... so I am not too keen on making one. And the gift wrapping idea is really neat - I would LOVE to get gifts wrapped in fabric (I should tell my friends and family to read this blog!) - but noone of my friends and family sews! So they would not have anything to do with the "wrapping" ... and I would hate if it would be trown away ...
I like the big sack idea. We have been using an old jute bag - but it's REALLY REALLY old ... So I could make a new one ...
The advent calendar idea is neat, too. However, since I made a reusable calendar last year (also blogged about it) I don't really need another one at the moment ... But I will keep it in mind ... maybe I can do that later, if there is still fabric left ... I definitely like the applique-idea. Did not think of that at all yet! Have never tried it but always wanted to ...

I also like the panel-idea! Maybe I can do the table cloth/ table runner thing after all with just a panel around it (for birthdays) ... AND do pillows or something for christmas as well! Or matching table cloth and pillows for the living room ... oh well, am getting carried away here ...
For some reason I like the idea of a table cloth with pockets around the border - I hope people will know what I mean. I don't know why ... saw something like this somehwere and instantly liked it. Just had no idea how to actually use it ... I will have to think about this! But combining the fabric with other - solid colors - opens MANY more possibilities! Did not at all think about this! Am so glad I asked!!!!
