Finally another dress

When the weather got hot I realized that my daughter had grown out of almost all of her dresses ... so I really wanted to make her a new one. I actually meant to make a "twirly one" already for ages. But I had never done one like those before and at the time I could not really bring myself to try and also I simply did not have much time. So I figured better I use the pattern that I have used before already (here and here) ... I know how to do it and she gets her dress quickly. I still want to make a twirly one ... Hope I get to it as one of my next projects.
So here are a few pictures of the dress I made


I am especially proud of the lower hem which instead of making a usual hem I finished off with bias tape (I hope I use the correct term here). I did this for the first time and I think it turned out nicely. Also I am proud that this time the back seam in the middle of the dress actually IS in the middle! :-)

You can probably tell from the pictures that I hate ironing .... :-)

    Great job! It came out too cute and I bet even if you did iron it would end up all wrinkled from playing in it. That's what I tell myself when I don't iron.

    Backlogged on my commenting as usual. Love the dress! I hate ironing too. Just spent an hour ironing vast numbers of outfits for the girls. Ugh. The embroidery(?) on the skirt is so pretty. Even if the fabric came pre-embroidered I must say you have gret taste! This really is a gorgeous dress - must not let my Emily see it, she will immediately want one for herself!

    @Katie: Thanks for the sweet comment. And I will remember that about the ironing ... Will tell this myself when I feel bad for not ironing!

    @LiEr: Oh, I admire you for being able to iron for one hour! I actually almost never iron the clothes of my daughter. With most clothes you can't tell anyway ... but for some reason the self-made dresses look more wrinkled than the bought ones - even though I only buy/ make clothes out of 100% cotton. It's really a mystery to me!
    The embroidery on the skirt is actually just a print. I would like it even more if it was on a yellow background or something else that is not necessarily pink ;-) but oh well, you can't have everything! It was just a scrap piece I bought second hand so I didn't have much of a choice ...

    You did a awesome job! And I'm so proud of you for getting the seam straight! (one of the last shirts I made for my 6 y/o, I kinda messed up the cutting of the pattern... The seam ended up being right up the front of the shirt.... oh-well... My daughter said " it's ok mommy, I love it anyways!" ) Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for the nice comment! And that is so sweet of your daughter to say something like this! My daughter actually is not always as supportive ... ;-)
    But to both of us: Everything gets better with practice! I just would need more time to practice sewing regularly ...
