I did it. Thanks to another method, making pompoms is - for me at least - much easier. I found this site with a pompom tutorial and tried it ... and it worked much better (and quicker!!!) than the cardboard method.
So, here are the two tiny pompoms. (The third bigger one is the one I did first.) I'm very happy with how they turned out. I also chrocheted a little string that I threaded through the top bit of the leg warmer. Now I only need to attach the pompoms to the ends of the string ...
